That is what cost them potential sales against Sega as the Genesis version had the gore retained from the Arcade. ![]() It’s the reason the first game on Super NES is looked at as one of Nintendo’s dumbest business decisions. We all know that never leads to anything good when a mature rated franchise gets censored to extremes. If you are getting MK1 vibes on Super NES, then your thoughts are correct. However, it was aimed at children and would have no gore and blood. In 1995, Threshold produced a live action movie first and later that year would develop an animated series. That brings us to Defenders of the Realm, a TV-Y7 show from Threshold Entertainment and Roman Films who bought the licensing rights. I kid you not as there was even licensing to have t-shirts and lunchboxes for children. Just to catch everyone up on gaming history, MK was such a massive success in the 90s that many outside the industry wanted a piece of the pie. After Warner Brothers released Mortal Kombat: Scorpion’s Revenge, an animated film, my memory of the old 90s show came back to me.
